An infant carrier faces backwards
Infants travel in a rear-facing carrier. It must not be fitted on a seat with an active front airbag, so it is normally secured in the rear. This fitting requirement is the reason a baby seat has to be agreed in advance and cannot be sorted out spontaneously at the vehicle.
Travelling with a newborn
State the child’s age in your request so that a carrier rather than a toddler seat is planned. If you are bringing your own infant carrier, mention that as well: it counts as an extra piece of luggage and needs space. For the ride itself, it helps to keep changing things and bottles within reach in your hand luggage rather than in a suitcase in the boot.
