Two halves of Kreuzberg
Kreuzberg is still described in two parts, a distinction going back to the old postal districts: the eastern half around Kottbusser Tor, Oranienstraße and Görlitzer Park, and the western half around Bergmannstraße, Chamissoplatz and Viktoriapark. Add the edges along the Landwehr Canal, Markthalle Neun on Eisenbahnstraße, and the northern rim with the Jewish Museum and Checkpoint Charlie. Give the street and house number for a destination in Kreuzberg: a fair distance separates the two halves.
Narrow streets, plenty going on
Street space in Kreuzberg is tight: cycle lanes, loading zones, pavement seating and traffic-calmed stretches such as Bergmannstraße leave little room to stop. At weekends and during events around Oranienstraße, closures are added to that. If you have a lot of luggage, it helps to name a quieter side street or the nearest cross street as the stopping point in your request.
