About Theatres, opera & shows
Berlin keeps three opera houses, two major concert halls and a revue tradition that goes back to the 1920s. The stages cluster along Friedrichstraße and Unter den Linden, around Potsdamer Platz and in City West near Zoo station.
Opera, ballet and classical concerts
- Staatsoper Unter den Linden – on the boulevard next to Bebelplatz. Berlin opera performances here often start in the early evening; the car stops on the Unter den Linden side.
- Deutsche Oper Berlin – Bismarckstraße in Charlottenburg, the largest of the three opera houses, close to U Deutsche Oper.
- Komische Oper Berlin – while its home on Behrenstraße is being renovated, it plays in the Schillertheater, also on Bismarckstraße. Check the venue on your ticket.
- Staatsballett Berlin – performances are shared between these opera stages, so the address depends on the evening.
- Berliner Philharmonie – Herbert-von-Karajan-Straße at the Kulturforum, a few minutes from Potsdamer Platz. Berlin Philharmonic concerts draw large audiences, and the drop-off area gets busy shortly before the start.
- Konzerthaus Berlin – the colonnaded building on Gendarmenmarkt; classical concerts at the Konzerthaus Berlin take place in the Great and the Small Hall.
Hotels within walking distance of the Linden stages are on hotels in Mitte & Gendarmenmarkt.
Revues, musicals and big shows
- Friedrichstadt-Palast Berlin – Friedrichstraße, north of the Spree. Its current Grand Show, BLINDED by DELIGHT, runs most evenings on one of Europe's largest stages.
- Admiralspalast Berlin – Friedrichstraße, beside the S-Bahn station. Shows at Admiralspalast range from musicals to guest productions and stand-up.
- Theater des Westens – Kantstraße, a short walk from Zoo station. Musicals at the Theater des Westens play here for long runs.
- BLUEMAX Theater Berlin – Marlene-Dietrich-Platz at Potsdamer Platz, home of the Blue Man Group show.
- Metropol Berlin – the striking building on Nollendorfplatz in Schöneberg, used for concerts and events.

Variety, cabaret, comedy and dinner shows
- Wintergarten Varieté Berlin – Potsdamer Straße, classic variety under a starry ceiling.
- Chamäleon Berlin – inside the Hackesche Höfe; the taxi stops on Rosenthaler Straße and you walk into the first courtyard.
- Quatsch Comedy Club Berlin – in the basement of the Friedrichstadt-Palast building on Friedrichstraße.
- DISTEL Cabaret Berlin – political cabaret on Friedrichstraße in the Admiralspalast complex.
- Palazzo Berlin dinner shows – a four-course menu with artistry in a mirror tent near Zoo station, in the winter season.
Landing and curtain-up on the same day
Most shows begin between about 7 and 8 pm. If your flight lands in the afternoon, plan the drive from BER at 35–50 minutes to Mitte and 40–55 minutes to Charlottenburg, plus time in arrivals and at the hotel. A pre-booked car with your flight number spares you the queue at the terminal taxi rank, where waiting times grow when several flights land together.
Theatres rarely accept suitcases in the cloakroom. Stop at your hotel first; for a quick change, many guests book a hotel near the venue. Options near Potsdamer Platz and the Philharmonie are listed on hotels at Potsdamer Platz & Tiergarten.
At the door: where the car stops
Opera houses and big revues have a short pull-in in front, used by taxis and coaches at the same time. Ask the driver to let you out a few metres before if the queue is long. On Friedrichstraße the bus lanes and narrow side streets make stopping tricky; the driver will pick the nearest legal spot. At Bismarckstraße both opera stages are on the same road, so name the right house.
After the performance and back to BER
When a big hall empties, the nearby taxi ranks are quickly cleared. Taking the U-Bahn or walking a block before hailing a car often saves time. If you fly out the next morning, book the ride from your hotel in advance via Berlin to BER. Couples and families travelling in evening clothes appreciate the space; groups of six or more can choose a minivan.
