About BER to East Side Gallery
The East Side Gallery is the longest preserved section of the Berlin Wall, painted by artists from many countries after the Wall fell. It runs along the Spree in Friedrichshain between Ostbahnhof and the Oberbaumbrücke.
Which end of the Wall should you choose?
The murals face Mühlenstraße, a wide road with cycle lanes and few legal stopping places. Most passengers choose one of three points:
- Ostbahnhof end – the north-western start, convenient if you want to walk the whole length towards the river bridge.
- Middle, opposite the arena – near the entertainment district around the Uber Arena.
- Oberbaumbrücke end – via Warschauer Straße, where the Wall meets the red-brick bridge to Kreuzberg.
The new A100 route and the Elsenbrücke
Since the A100 was extended to Treptower Park, many drivers take the motorway almost all the way from BER. They leave near the Elsenbrücke, cross the Spree and continue via Stralauer Allee to Warschauer Straße. The bridge is still partly a construction site and jams build up in rush hour. The alternative runs through Kreuzberg and over the Oberbaumbrücke. Your driver chooses based on live traffic.
Travel time and distance
The East Side Gallery is one of the closer central sights: roughly 21 to 25 km from the terminals. Outside peak times the drive takes 30 to 40 minutes, while on weekday mornings and from late afternoon 45 to 60 minutes are realistic. Standing still at the Elsenbrücke on a running meter is costly. With the booking, the price for your vehicle is fixed the moment you confirm.
Arena nights: when Mühlenstraße fills up
On concert and match evenings, thousands of people head for the Uber Arena at the same time. Warschauer Straße and Mühlenstraße slow down long before the doors open. If your flight lands in the late afternoon on such a day, ask to be dropped at Ostbahnhof and walk along the Wall instead of queuing in traffic.
Walking the Wall from end to end
At a relaxed pace, the walk from Ostbahnhof to the Oberbaumbrücke takes 20 to 30 minutes, longer with photo stops. A practical plan: get dropped at the station end, walk south past the murals, then cross the bridge into Kreuzberg for food. Ostbahnhof itself has regional and long-distance trains; the guide BER to Ostbahnhof compares the options if you travel on by rail.
Hotels along the river
Several newer hotels line Mühlenstraße and the streets behind the arena. With so many similar addresses, write the hotel name and street in the booking. The Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg hotels page lists options, and the Friedrichshain overview helps if you are staying deeper in the district.

Before you go
- The Wall is open-air and free to visit at any time; early mornings are quietest.
- The riverside path behind the Wall is good for a walk but not for suitcase wheels.
- Enter your flight number so the driver adjusts to delays.
- Leaving from here? Book the trip back to BER with the hotel as pickup.
