About Olympic Stadium
The Olympiastadion, built for the 1936 Games and modernised for the 2006 World Cup, is Berlin's largest stadium. Around it lie the Maifeld with the bell tower and the Waldbühne, an open-air amphitheatre set in woodland.
How long does the taxi from BER to the Olympiastadion take?
The stadium lies in Westend, on the western edge of Charlottenburg, around 40 km from the terminals. Your driver takes the A113 and the A100, then Heerstraße; on a quiet day that is 45 to 60 minutes. On event days the last two kilometres decide everything: from about two hours before kick-off or show time, police steer traffic away from Olympischer Platz. If your flight lands in the afternoon of an evening event, go to the hotel first. Hotels nearby are covered under BER to Charlottenburg and BER to Spandau.
What happens at the stadium and around it
- Hertha BSC home matches – the club plays its home games here, usually at weekends or on Friday evenings.
- DFB-Pokal final – Germany's cup final is played here every year, normally on a Saturday evening in May; fans of both clubs fly in.
- ISTAF Berlin – the international athletics meeting, usually in late August or early September.
- Waldbühne Berlin – the open-air amphitheatre in the woods west of the stadium; Waldbühne concerts run roughly from May to September, from rock to the Berlin Philharmonic.
- Maifeld – the vast lawn below the bell tower, used for large outdoor events.
- Pyronale – the fireworks championship on the Maifeld, on two evenings in late summer or early autumn.

At the destination: where the car stops
For the stadium, the south gate via Flatowallee is the practical drop-off; the east gate opens onto Olympischer Platz, which is often closed to cars on match days. For the Waldbühne and the Maifeld, ask for Glockenturmstraße, where there is a taxi rank close to the amphitheatre entrance. Tell your driver which of the three you need, because the walk from the stadium's east gate to the Waldbühne takes a good 15 minutes.
Leaving after the match or concert
When 70,000 people leave at once, the streets around the stadium stay blocked for 45 minutes or more. Agree a pickup point outside the closed zone, for example on Heerstraße or at Theodor-Heuss-Platz, and a time about an hour after the end. After Waldbühne concerts the crowd heads down towards S-Bahn Pichelsberg; the rank on Glockenturmstraße empties quickly, so a pre-booked pickup saves you a long wait in the dark.
Fans in groups
Cup final weekends and big concerts mean groups of friends travelling together. Book one larger vehicle instead of several cars; a group transfer keeps flags, bags and people together. The price is shown for the vehicle before you book, so splitting it is simple.

Practical notes
- Large bags are not allowed in the stadium: check them at the hotel first.
- Waldbühne concerts start early in summer; aim to arrive an hour before.
