About Mitte & Gendarmenmarkt hotels
Mitte's historic centre stretches from Unter den Linden to Leipziger Straße, with Gendarmenmarkt and its two domed churches and the Konzerthaus at its heart. Friedrichstraße links the grand station area in the north with the former border crossing at Checkpoint Charlie.
How long does the taxi from BER take to Friedrichstraße?
The drive covers roughly 25 to 32 km. Outside rush hour, plan on 35 to 50 minutes from the terminal kerb to a hotel door on Friedrichstraße. On weekday mornings and between about 4 and 7 pm, the stretch through Treptow or Kreuzberg can push that towards an hour. Late at night the same trip is often done in around half an hour.
Friedrichstraße is the spine of this area: it runs from the station of the same name in the north, past Unter den Linden and Gendarmenmarkt, down to Checkpoint Charlie. Several side streets are one-way, and the traffic rules on parts of Friedrichstraße have changed more than once. Your driver plans the last few hundred metres around that, so give the full hotel name rather than just "Friedrichstraße". For sights in the area, see our page on the airport taxi to Mitte.
Gendarmenmarkt and Unter den Linden: where the car stops
- The Westin Grand Berlin – corner of Friedrichstraße and Behrenstraße, a few steps south of Unter den Linden. The car stops at the hotel entrance on the corner; mention the Westin by name, as several hotels share this block of Friedrichstraße.
- Hotel de Rome Berlin – Behrenstraße, facing Bebelplatz behind the State Opera. Bebelplatz itself is a pedestrian square, so the drop-off is on Behrenstraße in front of the former bank building.
- Titanic Gendarmenmarkt Berlin – Französische Straße, one block from the square. The street is narrow, so expect a brief stop at the kerb while the driver unloads the boot.
- Hotel Luc, Autograph Collection – Charlottenstraße on the western edge of Gendarmenmarkt. The square is car-free; the driver pulls up on Charlottenstraße directly at the entrance.
Arriving for a concert or the Christmas market? Our Gendarmenmarkt page covers the square itself.
Around Friedrichstraße station and the Spree
- NH Collection Berlin Mitte Friedrichstrasse – on Friedrichstraße just south of the S-Bahn bridge. Station traffic is heavy here, so the stop is short; have your bags ready to go.
- Eurostars Berlin – also on Friedrichstraße near the station, right by the Admiralspalast theatre. Tell the driver "Eurostars" so the car does not stop at the neighbouring NH.
- Meliá Berlin – Friedrichstraße right on the Spree by the Weidendammer Brücke. Coming from the south, the car crosses the station area first and stops on the river side of the hotel.
- Château Royal Berlin – Mittelstraße, a quiet side street between Friedrichstraße and Neustädtische Kirchstraße. A calm spot for unloading, which helps with large suitcases.
Checkpoint Charlie, Leipziger Straße and Spittelmarkt
- NH Collection Berlin Mitte am Checkpoint Charlie – Leipziger Straße near the junction with Friedrichstraße. Leipziger Straße is a wide arterial road; the car turns into the hotel side rather than stopping in the traffic lanes.
- Adina Apartment Hotel Berlin Checkpoint Charlie – Krausenstraße, one block south of Leipziger Straße. A quieter street, practical when unloading a family's luggage or a child seat.
- Motel One Berlin Spittelmarkt – Leipziger Straße at Spittelmarkt, at the eastern end of the axis. Name the hotel and "Spittelmarkt" so the driver approaches on the correct side of the dual carriageway.
- Courtyard by Marriott Berlin City Center – Axel-Springer-Straße, between Spittelmarkt and Moritzplatz. Easy to reach from the Kreuzberg side without crossing the Friedrichstraße bottleneck.
The crowds around the former border crossing are covered on our Checkpoint Charlie page.
Two addresses that are not where you might expect
Gorki Apartments Berlin sits on Weinbergsweg near Rosenthaler Platz, in the northern part of Mitte towards Prenzlauer Berg. The taxi route differs from the Friedrichstraße hotels, so it helps to enter the full address when booking.
Hotel Wilmina Berlin is often grouped with Mitte boutique hotels but is actually on Kantstraße in Charlottenburg, inside a former women's prison. Your driver heads west rather than to the centre; the page on hotels on Ku'damm and City West covers that area.

Taxi rank or pre-booked car: what changes for you
At the BER taxi rank, the meter runs on the official tariff and the final amount depends on traffic. With a pre-booked airport taxi you see the total for the whole vehicle before you confirm, and the price does not move if Friedrichstraße is jammed. Your driver waits in the arrivals hall at the point stated in your confirmation (see meeting your driver at BER). Business travellers receive a receipt they can hand in for expenses.
Checklist for the driver: hotel name, street, and whether you need the boot space for more than standard luggage. If a hotel has its own entrance for groups or a side door for deliveries, say so; otherwise the car stops at the main door.
