About Potsdamer Platz & Tiergarten hotels
Potsdamer Platz was rebuilt from a border wasteland into a district of towers, cinemas and offices. To the west lie the Kulturforum, the embassy quarter and the Landwehrkanal, with the Tiergarten park forming the green northern edge.
Which route does the taxi take from BER?
Drivers usually take the A113 and the city motorway A100, leaving it in Tempelhof or Schöneberg and continuing north through the Potsdamer Straße corridor. That makes 28 to 34 km and, without congestion, 35 to 50 minutes. Friday afternoons and the weekday evening peak on the A100 can add 15 to 20 minutes. Our Potsdamer Platz page covers the square and its sights.
Hotels on Budapester Straße sit at the western end of the Tiergarten, closer to Zoologischer Garten; the driver then often approaches via Kurfürstenstraße or the Landwehrkanal.
At Potsdamer Platz itself
- Grand Hyatt Berlin – Marlene-Dietrich-Platz, opposite the theatre that serves as the main film festival venue. Taxis pull into the square in front of the hotel entrance.
- Berlin Marriott Hotel – Inge-Beisheim-Platz in the Beisheim Center, north of the square. The car stops in the forecourt between the office towers.
- The Mandala Hotel Berlin – Potsdamer Straße, directly at the square. Mention the hotel by name; the entrance is easy to miss between neighbouring office lobbies.
- Scandic Berlin Potsdamer Platz – Gabriele-Tergit-Promenade, on the quieter south-eastern side near the park area. Good for unloading without traffic behind you.
- Motel One Berlin Potsdamer Platz – Leipziger Platz, beside the Mall of Berlin. The octagonal square has traffic on all sides; the driver stops on the hotel side.
- Precise Tale Berlin Potsdamer Platz – Stresemannstraße, south-east of the square towards Kreuzberg. A straightforward kerbside stop.
- JW Marriott Hotel Berlin – Stauffenbergstraße, west of the Kulturforum, in the building that last operated as Hotel Berlin Central District and earlier as the Maritim. Not to be confused with the Sheraton Berlin Grand Hotel Esplanade, which still operates on Lützowufer.
Lützowufer, Lützowplatz and the embassy quarter
- Sheraton Berlin Grand Hotel Esplanade – Lützowufer on the Landwehrkanal. The canal road is one-way in places, so the driver chooses the approach accordingly.
- Hotel Berlin, Berlin – Lützowplatz, a large square with a green centre and traffic running around it. The driver leaves the traffic flow and stops on the hotel's side of the square.
- Pestana Berlin Tiergarten – Stülerstraße in the embassy quarter. Quiet residential street; security barriers at nearby embassies can make the last metres slow.
- Motel One Berlin Tiergarten – An der Urania, where Tiergarten meets Schöneberg. Close to Kurfürstenstraße, so easy to reach from the A100.
Budapester Straße, the zoo edge and Das Stue
- InterContinental Berlin – Budapester Straße, with a covered driveway for arrivals.
- Pullman Berlin Schweizerhof – Budapester Straße, a little further west. Tell the driver "Schweizerhof" to avoid a stop at the InterContinental.
- Hotel Palace Berlin – Budapester Straße, part of the Europa-Center. The car stops at the hotel's own entrance, not at the shopping centre.
- SO/ Berlin Das Stue – Drakestraße, in the former Danish embassy at the edge of the park beside the zoo. A calm side street with space to unload.
Hotels around the zoo station overlap with our page on Zoologischer Garten; for the park and its villas see Tiergarten.
Watch out for one name: The Mandala Suites
The Mandala Suites Berlin share a name with the hotel at Potsdamer Platz but are on Friedrichstraße in Mitte, a few blocks north of Checkpoint Charlie. Check the address in your reservation before booking the car; the area is covered on the page for hotels in Mitte.

When it gets tight around Potsdamer Platz
In February the film festival takes over Marlene-Dietrich-Platz, and short-term closures for red-carpet arrivals are common; see our Berlinale page. Large concerts and trade-fair evenings also fill the hotel driveways. Your pre-booked price for the whole vehicle stays fixed even if the final kilometre takes longer, unlike the meter of a taxi taken at the rank. Need an invoice with company details? It is issued by the transport company that carries out the ride; the booking confirmation serves as proof of payment.
